Two Portion Blessing

“Everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” Matthew 19:29 .

1. Faith and obedience.
2. Following disciple
3. Follow the doctrine of Christ.
4. Remain in church.
5. Be with God.

INTRODUCTION

“Everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.”       Matthew 19:29 .

God has promised hundred fold blessing to the one who sacrifices for the sake of the Lord.

When Abraham left his father’s house, his kindred and his country according to the word of the Lord, he was blessed and his generation multiplied as that of the stars in the sky. Genesis 15:5 .

To receive two fold blessing we need to follow certain things.

1. FAITH AND OBEDIENCE

 “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5-7 .

Simon Peter had toiled all night but he caught no fish. Jesus entered his boat and asked him to move it little deeper and cast his net. Immediately Peter obeyed his word and cast the net. His net was filled with fishes and he called his friends on the other boat to come and help him.

In order to receive two fold blessing we need to believe and obey the word of God. James 2:22 says ‘Faith without work is not fruitful’.

2. FOLLOWING DISCIPLE

“As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” 2 Kings 2:2 .

Even when Elisha knew that his master Elijah would be taken up to heaven, he followed him till the end. And so he received the double portion of the spirit of Elijah.

We need to take our cross and follow Christ, Matthew 10:38 . The cross represents the will of God. As the sheep follows the shepherd, we need to follow Christ inorder to inherit two fold blessing.

3. FOLLOW THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST

“After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.” Job 42:10 .

On His sermon on mount Jesus says “Pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you.” Matthew 5:44 . To pray for our enemies is one of the doctrines of Jesus Christ. When Job followed this doctrine of Christ by praying for his friends who rebuked him, the Lord blessed him with two fold blessing.

“One who follows the doctrine of Christ will be firm as the house upon the rock.” Matthew 7:25 .

4. REMAIN IN CHURCH

“He must acknowledge………….the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has.” Deuteronomy 21:17 .

The right of the first born is to receive double portion of the blessing.

Hebrews 12:23 says “you have come to the church of first born whose names are written in heaven.” The church is the assembly of firstborns. We need to remain in this assembly-the church to receive two fold blessing.

5. BE WITH GOD

“I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two camps.”        Genesis 32:10 .

When Jacob crossed the Jordan to go to his uncle’s house he went with a staff and when he returned he had two great armies. In Genesis 31:42 , Jacob says ‘The God of my father Abraham and Isaac was with me and so I’m blessed’.

Bible says in Zechariah 9:12 “Turn you unto the stronghold……. I will render double unto you.” According to Psalms 43:2, The Lord is our stronghold, when we turn out to him he will give us double fold blessing.
